CROCHET IN THE YO - C.I.T.Y.

What is Crochet?

Crochet is a popular and enjoyable craft that allows you to create beautiful and functional items using yarn and a crochet hook.

What Do You Need To Get Started?

 Supplies:

  • Crochet hooks: Start with a medium-sized hook, such as a 5.5 mm (US I-9) or 6 mm (US J-10) hook.
  • Yarn: Choose a smooth, medium-weight yarn (#4) in a light color so you can see your stitches easily.
  • Scissors: For cutting yarn.
  • Yarn needle: For weaving in ends.

What Are The Basics?

Basic Crochet Stitches:

  • Chain (ch): This is the foundation of most crochet projects. To make a chain, yarn over and pull through the loop on your hook. Repeat as many times as needed.

  • Single Crochet (sc): Insert your hook into a stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop (you now have two loops on your hook), yarn over again, and pull through both loops.

  • Double Crochet (dc): Yarn over, insert your hook into a stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop (three loops on your hook), yarn over again, pull through the first two loops, yarn over once more, and pull through the remaining two loops.

Remember...

Practice Your Tension:

  • Consistent tension is important in crochet. Try to keep your yarn not too tight or too loose. Experiment with different ways of holding the yarn and hook until you find what feels comfortable for you.

Start with Simple Projects:

  • Begin with small, straightforward projects like dishcloths, scarves, or coasters to build your skills before attempting more complex patterns.
